Fishermen invited to marine refrigeration workshops

The Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program, in partnership with Integrated Marine Systems and the Alaska Vocational Technical Center, is offering marine refrigeration workshops for commercial fishermen.

The one-day workshops will cover maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on vessel refrigeration equipment.

Additional topics include refrigeration theory, system winterization, controller programming, refrigeration safety and Freon handling and charging, system sizing, and thermal expansion valve adjustment.

A refrigerated seawater system will be used for training activities at each location.

Workshops will be held today in Homer and Saturday in Anchorage. The workshop fee is $100 and includes the course manual.

Clean energy conference slated

The Business of Clean Energy in Alaska conference will be held at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage on May 18 and 19.

The keynote speaker will be author, educator and business consultant Hunter Lovins on the topic of unleashing Alaska's new energy economy.

Retirement celebration

The Wells Fargo Soldotna store will be hosting an open house on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. to celebrate the retirement of Mary Nell Larson. Mary Nell has been a valued employee for the past twelve years; seven of them here on the peninsula. Please stop by to wish Mary Nell well on her last day of work. She will be missed by all of us.
