Long time Alaska resident Margie June Mapes died Tuesday, April 29, 2009, at Nicholson's Assisted Living in Kenai with her family by her side. She was 81.
A graveside service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Doug Olson will officiate.
Mrs. Mapes was born June 1, 1928, to Earnest and Lottie Law in Lind, Wash. She moved to Alaska with her family in March 1958. She was a member of the VFW and a charter member of the Eagles No. 3525 and enjoyed volunteer work.
She also was involved with the first Bowling Alley in Kenai, "Kenai Bowl" for several years and other alleys including Sky Bowl and Wildwood Lanes. She had recently celebrated her 63rd wedding anniversary.
"Her greatest joy was her family, husband and grandchildren. She was truly loved and was a wonderful mother and wife," her family said. "We will always love her and miss her. The last couple years she loved and enjoyed her kitty cat, Gismo, who was a gift from her grandchildren."
She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Dennis Mapes.
She is survived by her husband, Norman E. Mapes; daughters, Deeann Mueller and her husband, Denis, Teresa Dedrick and Nancy Rediske and her husband, Charles; grandsons, Kyle Mueller, Norman and RC Dedrick and Dustin Rediske; granddaughters, Ashley and Katy Rediske; great-grandsons, Nolan Dedrick and Landon Dedrick; and great-granddaughter, Morgon Mueller.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
