Piranhas host sprint championships

The Peninsula Piranhas hosted the South Central Area Sprint Championships on Saturday at Kenai Central High School. The Kodiak Kingfishers had the most combined points between girls and boys, with 373.50. The Kachemak Swim Club had 362 points, while the Piranhas were third with 353, the Soldotna Silver Salmon were fourth with 339.50 and the Seward Tsunami Swim Club were fifth with 146 points.

Silver Salmon compete at Junior Olympics

The Soldotna Silver Salmon competed at the 2010 Speedo Alaska Swimming Junior Olympic Championship from April 15 to 18 at Bartlett High School in Anchorage. Several Silver Salmon swimmers were able to place in the top eight.

In 15 and older, Olivia Bowen was third in the 50-meter freestyle, third in the 100 freestyle, second in the 100 backstroke, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 butterfly, third in the 200 individual medley and third in the 200 backstroke.

In 13 to 14, Kaitlyn Groleske finished fourth in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 200 individual medley, seventh in the 100 freestyle, eighth in the 400 individual medley, eighth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 100 butterfly.

In 11 to 12, Alex Weeks finished second in the 50 freestyle, fourth in the 100 backstroke, second in the 500 freestyle, second in the 200 freestyle, first in the 100 freestyle, third in the 50 butterfly and third in the 100 individual medley.

Other Silver Salmon at the meet were Chase Corona-Cain, Dustin Hunter, Rachel Davidson, Amanda Eby and Katrina Bearup.
