NOME (AP) -- A Washington state man has been hired to be city manager of Nome.

Ed Pefferman, former city administrator in Hoquiam, Wash., was recently selected for the position by the Nome City Council. Pefferman was one of two finalists.

His two-year contract with the Seward Peninsula city calls for a $82,000 annual salary, plus benefits, the Nome Nugget reported Thursday.

Pefferman lost his job in Hoquiam in 1998 when city leaders there cut the city administrator position to save money.
