Last week, the children in the morning class explored the theme of camping. A campsite was set up in the classroom with a tent, cooler, play fire, binoculars, compass, etc. Later that day, Miss Sally, Sterling Head Start's cook, set up a picnic on the playground. The children enjoyed the opportunity to use the playground at Sterling Elementary.
Sterling Head Start finished the week out with the children drawing and writing in their journals about their camping experiences.
The afternoon class's theme for last week also was camping. There was a small tent set up in the "playroom" and the kids had a great time pretending to camp. They made pretend campfires and cooked food over the "fire." They made pretend flashlights and also decorated paper tents which had each child's picture in the tent opening.
The children made a large campsite mural which we hung in the school window. The week ended with a picnic outside on the playground. The children served themselves with hotdogs and all the trimmings, macaroni salad, beans, fresh vegetables, strawberries and juice.
Sterling Head Start thanked Mrs. Eastham, the school secretary, with roses and a card, for all she does for our school.
Sterling Head Start hosted an open house for the children who may attend the school next year.
