Potters guild holds sale Saturday

The Kenai Potters Guild will sell clay works in the pottery studio at the Kenai Fine Arts Center on Cook Street in Old Town Kenai from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Prices are affordable. Writers' conference slated

The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College will present the statewide Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference at Land's End Resort in Homer from June 22 to 26. It will feature award-winning author Tobias Wolff as the keynote presenter as well as 25 other faculty including noted authors, editors, publishers and agents from throughout the United States. Other out-of-state presenters include authors Pam Munoz Ryan, Susan Power, Gregg Kleiner, Molly Gloss and Susan Zwinger.

The conference offers daily workshops, craft talks, manuscript reviews, panel presentations and evening readings in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children's writing and more. Conference participants also are offered an optional three-day preconference writers' workshop retreat from June 18 to 21.

Evening readings by conference faculty will be open to the general public at no charge.

Advanced registration is required and there is limited enrollment. Registration is $225 before May 15 and $275 after. The preconference session is an additional $300, including room and board. One University of Alaska Anchorage academic credit is offered for the additional tuition fee of $93.

Poetry contest welcomes submissions

Write a poem and win the $1,000.00 grand prize! The Hollywood's Famous Poets Society is sponsoring a poetry contest, open to everyone. There is no entry fee, and nothing to buy. The grand prize is $1,000.

The Kenai Watershed Forum is accepting applications from local artists to reserve booth space at the Kenai River Festival in Kenai June 14 and 15. Space is limited. Fine arts camp planned

The Sitka Fine Arts Camp is accepting registrations for the 2003 camp. The two-week camp will be held at the Sheldon Jackson College campus in Sitka from June 16 to 30 and is open to students in grades seven through 12.

The camp provides students the opportunity to take classes and study with professional artists in the areas of dance, theater, music, Alaska Native arts, writing and visual arts. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.

Pratt soliciting ornament designs

The Pratt Museum in Homer is accepting entries for the creation of a limited edition ornament for the new Pratt Museum ornament series. All designs submitted should be in keeping with the Pratt Museum mission statement: "The Pratt Museum is dedicated to the process of education by exploring the natural environment and human experience relative to the Kachemak Bay region of Alaska and its place in the world."

Works in all media will be considered. The museum would like to presell as many pieces as possible through advanced sales offered to the membership and the community. The retail price of the ornament should be between $30 and $75, depending on the design chosen.

The entry deadline is June 30. A final selection will be made by Aug. 1. Production should be completed and delivered to the Pratt by Oct. 1. The artist will be given full credit on all advertising associated with the ornament. ATY offers summer classes

Alaska Theatre of Youth is accepting registrations for its summer 2003 program, featuring its new musical theater conservatory. Classes run variously from June 30 to Aug. 5 and include the summer theater conservatory, a technical theater program, the musical theater conservatory, an after-hours production workshop, and fairytale theater. Opportunities are available for kids from 5 to 18 years old.

There is a multistudent discount for families with more than one child enrolled in the program. The registration form is available at www.alaskatheatreofyouth.org/pdfs/RegCon2003.pdf.

The form can be printed, filled out and faxed or mailed to ATY. No phone registrations will be accepted. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.

Museum solicits fiber artwork

The Pratt Museum in Homer is accepting entries for a thematic fiber art exhibit which reflects Alaska's glaciers and volcanoes to accompany a "Fire and Ice: Photographs by Brad Lewis and Carmen Field" show.

The submission deadline is July 7 and the show will open July 11.
