Support for exhibit greatly appreciated
The staff and directors of the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center would like to thank everyone who came out to the Gala Opening for "Intersecting Journeys" on April 22. We expect that thousands of people will come through this art and history exhibit over the course of the summer, and it was great to see hundreds of people from our area in the Center to support the opening.

Borough government shouldn't be in tourism business
The Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council is rallying for support for its proposal to assess a tax on tourism-related businesses, the proceeds from which would be used to fund tourism promotion of the borough and its communities.
Amen, Wright to wed
Katherine Elizabeth Amen, of Kenai; and Michael Patrick Wright, of Columbia Falls, Mont.; are engaged to be married Saturday, May 28, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. Katherine is the daughter of Nelson and Sheila Amen, of San Antonio. She is a 2002 graduate of Kenai Central High School, a 2007 graduate of Montana State University and a 2010 graduate of the Seattle University College of Nursing. Michael is the son of Stephen and Kathleen Wright, of Columbia Falls. He is a 2003 graduate of Columbia Falls High School, a 2007 graduate of Montana State University and a 2011 graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine. The couple met at Montana State. The couple will begin their marriage together in Burlington, Vt. Michael will work as a orthopedic resident and Katherine as a nurse practitioner. They will honeymooon in Rome.
Power, Hall announce nuptials
Kenai residents Shawna Mae Power and John Wayland Hall are engaged to be wed July 30, 2011, in Cooper Landing. Shawna is the daughter of Dee Power and Pam Vaughn. She graduated from Kenai Central High School in 2004 and is employed at First National Bank Alaska. John is the son of Bruce and Corey Hall. He is a 2003 graduate of Kenai Central High and works at Oil And Gas Supply. The proposal occurred at sunset on Waikiki beach.
Church, Shepherd plan wedding
Jacquelyn Church, of Kenai; and Ryan Shepherd, of Soldotna; will wed June 11, 2011, 3 p.m. at the groom's parents home, with long time friend Chris Huston officiating. The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late Jeff and Heather Church. She is a 2004 graduate of Kenai Central High School. The groom-to-be is the son of Laura Herr and Tom Kaiser, and the late Michael Shepherd. He is a 2001 graduate of Skyview High School and works for Christopher Drywall. The maid of honor will be Wendy Fletcher, wearing a raspberry, tea-length dress. Bridsmaids will be Rebecca Kensinger, Jenna Evans, Sarah Kaiser and Alexis Ogle, also wearing raspberry, tea-length dresses. Best man is Cody Huston, joined by groomsmen Mike Bell, Ty Pepper, Ethan Evans and Brandon Read. The couple plans to honeymoon at a later date.

You might remember that early last year -- Valentine's Day 2010 -- I had an emergency appendectomy. We had gone to Anchorage to watch the Healy granddaughter play hockey and things went south from there except that the Coal Kings won the championship for Pee Wee hockey.
