Chamber luncheon held today

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon today at the Riverside House in Soldotna. The guest speaker will be Becky Brock, concession specialist of the National Park Service.

KCHS choir 'Pops' concert tonight

The 29th annual Kenai Central High School Choir "Pops" concert is tonight at the high school auditorium at 7. Cost is $5 general admission or $2 for students and seniors.

Garage sale donations needed

Credit Union 1 will hold a garage sale Saturday and May 20 to benefit the Forget-Me-Not Care Center. Garage sale donations may be brought to either the center at 905 Cook Ave. in Kenai or Credit Union 1 at 44758 Sterling Highway in Soldotna.

The Kenai Community Library is accepting donations of books, magazines and other items for its annual book sale scheduled for June.

Elks Lodge to hold all-star game

The Kenai Elks Lodge is beginning to sell tickets for its third annual NFL Celebrity All-Star basketball game.

The drive this year is to help provide funds toward the purchase of a volunteer vehicle for the Kenai Peninsula veterans. The game will be held June 10 at 7 p.m., and doors will be open at 6 p.m.

Beautification volunteers needed

The city of Kenai Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to assist with this season's beautification of the city.

Anyone interested should attend a volunteer orientation at 7 tonight at Kenai City Hall.

Friends of the refuge host nature hike

The Friends of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host a nature hike on Skilak Lookout Trail at 9 a.m. May 20. The Skilak Lookout Trail starts at Mile 5.6 of Skilak Lake Road and ends at a rock outcrop over Skilak Lake.

The hike will be five minutes round trip and has several rocky areas. Good boots are recommended. Lunch will be brown bag.

Salmon celebration planned in Kasilof

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and other groups from the community are putting on a Salmon Celebration in Kasilof and Johnson Lake State Campground. The show starts at 10 a.m. May 16.

The purpose of this celebration is to increase children's awareness of salmon and to foster a sense of stewardship toward this valuable natural resource.
