ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Workers at the Valdez Marine Terminal noticed a light sheen around the SeaRiver North Slope as it was loading at Berth 5 on Tuesday afternoon, according to Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.
The sheen was contained within a boom surrounding the ship, and workers began a cleanup using absorbent pads. Divers were being sent into the water Tuesday night to try to locate the source of the oil.
The company said late Tuesday that a drop of oil was surfacing about every ten minutes. Estimated spill volume was less than a cup, according to Alyeska.
The Coast Guard and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation were notified.
