Katie Burck, a student volunteer from Kenai Central High School, watches young sliver salmon, Dolly Varden and rainbow trout swim in a display tank at the Kenai Peninsula Salmon Celebration and Fish Release held at Johnson Lake State Recreation Area Tuesday.
About 600 elementary school students attended the event where they learned about different topics relating to fish, watersheds and safety on the water. About 8,500 rainbow trout were released into Johnson Lake.
