Bike rodeo today

Redoubt Elementary School's Bicycle Rodeo will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring your bicycles, scooters and skateboards to the school parking lot for free bike safety checks, safety videos and an obstacle course. There will be bike helmets for sale, food and door prizes. For more information, call 262-6302.

Counseling services board to meet

The Central Peninsula Counseling Services Board of Directors will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at 506 Lake St. in Kenai. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 283-7501.

Free investment seminar offered

Matt Streiff, the Kenai Edward Jones investment representative, will host a free investing program entitled, "Invest in Kids," Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Kenai. This program will offer parents and grandparents tips on financing a college education. For more information, or to reserve a seat, call 283-0785.

Murkowski staff to visit peninsula

Staff from U.S. Rep. Frank Murkowski will be on the Kenai Peninsula this month as part of the senator's mobile office program. Staff will be available to answer questions about the federal government and take public opinion messages.

On Tuesday, the mobile office will be in Seward from 9 a.m. until noon, in Cooper Landing from 2 until 3:30 p.m. and in Sterling from 4 until 6 p.m. On Wednesday, staff will visit Soldotna from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m., Kasilof from 1 until 3 p.m. and Ninilchik from 4 until 6 p.m. On May 16, staff will be in Homer from 9 a.m. until noon and Seldovia from 3 until 6 p.m.

Senior center presents guardianship program

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center's Family Caregiver Outreach and Support Program will present Jan Tempel, attorney at law, May 16 at 4:30 p.m. at the senior center. Tempel will discuss living wills, power of attorney, conservators and guardianship. This seminar is free, and the public is welcome to attend. For more information, call 262-2322 or 776-5786.

Safety day planned

State Farm Insurance, along with Central Emergency Services, the Soldotna Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska State Patrol, Soldotna Police and Fred Meyer, will sponsor the third annual Safety Day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. May 18 in the Fred Meyer parking lot. Safety activities for people of all ages are planned.

SPCA offers assistance

The SPCA of the Kenai Peninsula offers free spay and neuter vouchers for pets and shots for domestic animals for $10 and livestock for $35. SPCA identification tags also are available for $5 for the first year of registration and $2 after that. The SPCA will take in animals, and assistance is available under certain conditions.
