Handmade felt from fleece

Shauna Bryers will teach the basics of making felted material using wool and other organic fibers. Other topics will be making 3-D shapes, like hats and slippers, embellishing felt creations and finishing techniques. Bring an old pillowcase or a piece of percale sheet. Class is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday for older teens and adults in the Soldotna Middle School home economics room. There is a three person minimum and 10 person maximum. The cost is $30.

Weed walk

Janice Chumley will give hands-on experience identifying weeds that are making inroads in our community. This walk will highlight plants discussed in the weed awareness class. Participants will pull weeds and observe changes to habitat, see how how invasive weeds travel and explore control options. Participants should come prepared to dig, rain or shine. Class is from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday for teens and adults. Meet at the Kenai Middle School parking lot. The cost is $5.

Magic Moments photography tour

Sharon Mount, owner, will give a tour of Magic Moments. The tour will include information on different backgrounds and how sets are used, film processing, digital editing and organization. Class is from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday for all ages at Magic Moments Photography in Soldotna. There is no fee.

Alaska concealed carry and the law

Rod Christopher, Roy Gordon, Chuck Bartolini and Phil Nash of Peninsula Weapons Academy will cover firearm safety, handgun operation, firearms and the law, cleaning and storage of firearms, selecting a handgun for self defense, handgun shooting fundamentals, handgun shooting positions and controlling a violent confrontation and will offer a live-fire qualification course. Class is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for adults 21 and older in the Kenai River Center conference room. There 10 person minimum and 15 person maximum for the class. The cost is $90.


Hershey Track and Field meet

This is an entry-level event designed to provide a basic playground form of participation for the beginning athlete. For kids ages 5 to 12. Preregistration is recommended. Parent volunteers are needed. Registration is a 1 p.m. Saturday and the meet starts at 2 p.m. at the Homer High School football field. There is no fee.
