SoHi pool closes for maintenance

The Soldotna High School pool will be closed today through June 4 for maintenance. It will begin its summer pool schedule and swimming lessons June 5.

There will be five sessions of swim lessons offered, most consisting of 10 lessons each and are 40 minutes in length. Due to limited space, preregistration is suggested.

Starting dates are June 5 (nine lessons), June 19, July 5 (eight lessons, $34), July 17 and July 31. Lessons are offered six times a day and are held Monday through Friday. The cost is $40 per session. Private lessons are $10 for 30 minutes or $15 for 30 minutes for two kids. For more information or to register, call 262-7419.

Byway corridor planning set

The north and south Sterling scenic byway corridor planning session will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at the Pratt Museum in Homer in the lower level and Wednesday at Cooper Landing Community Hall.

A draft corridor plan and maps will be available and planning consultants will assist in the reviewing, additions or corrections and identifying high, medium and low project priorities.

Kenai shorebird festival takes wing

A shorebird festival will be held Wednesday and Thursday. Classroom discussions and field birding expeditions are planned. Todd Eskelin and Toby Burke from the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Ken Tarbox and Ken Marlow will lead workshops. For more information, to register or to request a brochure, call 260-5449.

Pancake breakfast, auction set to serve

The Sterling Senior Center will host a pancake breakfast and silent auction fundraiser from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the center for a suggested donation of $10 per person. The proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Historical society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold a board of directors meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the main museum building on Centennial Park Road. It is open to the public.

Acting troupe holds membership meeting

The Kenai Performers will host its annual membership meeting and potluck from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Old Town Playhouse in Kenai.

Museum cleanup set

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold a spring cleanup beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday on Centennial Park Road. Participants are asked to bring equipment. The society board will provide lunch.

Tree sale set to branch out

The annual 4-H bare root stock tree sale will begin at 9 a.m. May 20 at the Peninsula Center Mall parking lot. A variety of trees will be offered.
