Playtime!: Soldotna playground will open Sunday evening at 5
After two years of wishing and hoping and designing and a week of hammering, drilling and building, it's finally time to be playing.

It's no clich. Daniel Park's latest move to the Kenai Peninsula was literally a dream come true.

Dino the golden retriever watches a small grass fire burn on Kenai Beach Saturday evening near the water treatment facility. No major property damage occurred. In a matter of minutes, winds swirled the flames as they consumed brush and a few small trees before personnel extinguished the fire. Witnesses saw three young males playing around the area before the fire started. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the flames, according to the Kenai Police Department.

O'Guinn, Flanagan take 3 events: Kenai's Spalding triumphs 4 times
Lierin Flanagan and Ivy O'Guinn will be running track at the collegiate level next year. For anyone attending the 2010 Kenai Peninsula Borough Track Meet at Nikiski High School on Friday and Saturday, that should come as no surprise.

Bears get best of Stars: Kodiak takes 2 of 3 from Soldotna to open baseball season
The Soldotna baseball team opened its season by dropping two of three to visiting Kodiak in games played on Friday and Saturday.

Soldotna boys take down Wasilla
The Soldotna boys soccer team defeated visiting Wasilla 3-2 on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action.

SoHi softball has great Kodiak trip
The Soldotna softball team earned two Northern Lights Conference wins over Kodiak on Friday and Saturday in Kodiak. The Stars also split a pair of games with defending state champion East.
