The National Association of Letter Carriers' food drive is May 14. Put your non-perishable donation in a bag by your mailbox, and the letter carriers will collect and deliver it to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. Donations can also be taken to post offices or the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.
The Kenai Elks Lodge hosts a fundraiser May 14, at 6 p.m., to help the kids raise funds who are going to rodeo nationals. There will be a spaghetti feed with garlic bread and salad and silent auction. The group is looking for donations of silent auction items. Soldotna Equestrian Association hosts fun runs May 11 and 18 at the Soldotna arena. Sign up 6:15 p.m., start time, 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per run, barrels and poles. All proceeds go toward NBHA awards. Participants must be SEA members. Voluneers are needed to announce and rake.
The last bingo night until fall will be held on May 14 at the Nikiski Senior Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., play starts at 6 p.m. Must be 19 to play. Snacks will be available. Raffle tickets for airline miles and a quilt may also be purchased. For more information, call 776-7654.
The Soldotna Historical Society meets May 14, 9 a.m., at the Main Building, Centennial Park Road, Soldotna. Following the meeting will be a Spring Clean Up at the Museum beginning at 10:30 a.m. The public is welcome and lunch will be provided for workers.
A weight loss and health support group meets Wednesdays 5:30 -- 7:30 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, on the Spur Highway in Soldotna. Bring $2 each week -- $1 goes to the Biggest Loser of the week, $1 goes to the Biggest Loser of the Month and if you gain, an extra $1 for Biggest Loser of the Month. Alaska State Parks seeks Alaskans to host at a few select campgrounds and recreation areas this summer. Set up your motor home or RV all summer and commute to your favorite fishing hole. Hosts work 30- to 40-hours per week, and greet visitors, help them enjoy the recreation area and campground and do minor maintenance chores. Hosts are needed at Johnson Lake, Clam Gulch and the Ninilchik River Recreation areas as well as one more host at Deep Creek.
