The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host a Canoe Day, free to the public, on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the refuge visitor center on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna.
At 10 a.m., Dan Quick, author of "The Kenai Canoe Trails," will present a seminar on preparing for refuge wilderness canoe trips.
At 1 p.m., canoe experts from Blue Moose Lodge, Mad River Canoe and Wilderness Way will provide 10 different models of canoes for the public to try on Headquarters Lake. Participants paddling the demo canoes will be required to wear a personal flotation device and sign a liability waiver.
