Posted: Wednesday, May 11, 2005

The school raised $7,000 for the tsunami relief effort. Thanks to local businesses and Tustumena and Nikiski North Star elementary schools, Nikiski Middle-Senior High School and Kenai Middle School for their partnerships.

Mr. Daniels' class went to Homer to the Islands and Ocean Center and analyzed crab species. The class is having a raffle for a Trek 3700 mountain bike. Tickets are $2. Call Mr. Daniels, Mrs. Tobin or Mrs. Klaben at the school for more information. They are raising money for our outdoor education camp.

Mrs. Tobin's class had its last meeting with their friends from the Forget-Me-Not Center on May 5 in the form of a garden party. Thanks to the Forget-Me-Not Center for hosting all year.

Four hundred and fifty-eight kids participated in the Jump Rope for Heart fund-raiser, raising a total of $3,700. Special thanks to Terri Ellis, personal trainer.

Mrs. McBee's class' ducklings have hatched. Students learned about birds, their habitats and the food web. They will go on a field trip to Homer next week to learn about coastal habitats and ecosystems.

Last day of the 21st Century Community Learning Center is May 19. Thanks to those who helped build the after-school reading, math and homework clubs.
