Hard work helps festival take flight

Posted: Thursday, May 11, 2006

What a pleasure it was to once again coordinate the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival this year. An event of this size takes the support, hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of an amazing team of volunteers, community members, local and statewide businesses, individuals and organizations and staff.

On behalf of the Homer Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (festival sponsors), thank you to the over 150 such individuals who worked tirelessly to make this weekend such a wonderful success. Thank you also to the thousands of participants who supported this weekend celebration of our many migratory birds.

Despite moments of wind, rain and even snow, festival participants could be seen birding and enjoying the many events and activities offered throughout the weekend, in and around Homer. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and evaluation forms are available at the Homer Chamber of Commerce.

And on the wingtips of such a great weekend, mark your calendars: the 15th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival set for May 3-6, 2007, with John Acorn as our featured keynote presenter. Have a great spring and happy birding!
