Cost too high when it comes to children, guns

Posted: Friday, May 11, 2007

I would like to express thanks to Officer Tobin Brennan of the Soldotna Police Department for his attentive professionalism in this serious matter of schools, guns, children and the horrific devastation of the families that will be affected.

We, “the adults,” need to wake up to this reality, and it is real.

The price is much too high — $6,000 for the child just to be laid to rest. But the real price is the life of that child, and then the domino effect of pain is eternal. It all could have been prevented.

The responsibilities of having a permit for a firearm should come with much more accountability than it has.

Shame on us, “the adults.” We have a responsibility to the children with these guns. They must be protected at any cost.

I, myself, have a precious 8-year-old granddaughter. I’m afraid for her in her school.

It’s a major problem, and mitigation is crucial.
