Flood of help makes prom great

Posted: Tuesday, May 11, 2010

On behalf of the Soldotna High School class of 2011, we would like to thank many people for their help and support in making SoHi's "Poseidon's Paradise" prom an enjoyable and memorable night for all who attended.

Thanks to Trustworthy Hardware, Spenard Building Supply, Pizza Boys and Columbia Paint for their help with decorating supplies; and Magic Moments for their beautiful set-up for pictures.

While we would like to thank many people who contributed to the evening, special thanks goes to Beth Courtney and Rob McCabe who took our vision and turned our stage and promenade into a magical event and to Gail Price and Helen Harris for all of their hard work on the royalty sashes. Thanks to Owen Phillips -- our DJ for the night. Also a "we couldn't have done it without you" to all the parents who helped with our pre-prom building sessions and sent in cords and ladders for us to use. In addition, thanks to all the parents and students who showed up to help put it altogether on Friday night. It was the fastest we ever put together the commons in preparation for prom.

Thanks to a great group of advisors for all their planning and all those extra meetings: Dan Harbison for rock wall building and planning; Troy Minogue and Galen Brantley our electrical specialists; Doug Gordon video/ webcasting and the tunnel entrance; Vernel Schneider for the ceiling and putting up with all the changes; James Knoebel for his work with royalty preparation; David Justice for managing refreshments; Jill Ramponi for the giant seashell and promenade.

Also thanks to the Sohi staff and former staff who volunteered even though they were not Junior Class Advisors: Kay and Dean Gardner for organizing backstage during promenade; Bill Carlson for bringing in and hanging yards and yards of fish net; Meggean Bos for chaperoning and Stuco support; Stephanie Bohrnsen, Kay Gardner and Lori Marquardt for ticket sales; Fran Stetson, Tracy Silta, and LaDawn Druce for front door duties; Sarah Jones and Sara Moore for announcing; Kim Jordan and Nicole Egholm for coat check; administrators Todd Syverson and Tony Graham for their support and chaperoning; Lance Roberts and the custodial staff; Paul Wright and the stage crew; our Video Tech class members; and Kelley Smith for her continued support.

We know that the student would like to thank Kim Senn and all the junior parents who organized the after-prom party. Thanks to parents Vicki VinZant, Fay Shirnberg, and Susie Kress for help prom night.

To the eight future Sohi Stars from Soldotna Middle School, thanks for being our helpers/servers: Kelci Benson, Katelynn Kerkvliet, Julie Litchfield, Tori Sipes, Gen Gallagher, Shaylee Brenton, and Molly Silta.

We'd like to thank our class officers Mackenzie Senn, Angela Ramponi, Cassie Sheridan and Brianna VinZant and all of the students on the Prom Committee who spent hours planning and building -- you are the greatest!

The efforts of all of these people and more helped make this prom a success. Thank you!

Lana Syverson and Sara Moore
