Piranhas compete at Junior Olympics

The Peninsula Piranhas Swim Team, coached by Will Hubler, competed in the 2010 Speedo Alaska Junior Olympic Swimming Championship in Anchorage from April 15 to 18 at Bartlett High School. Over 400 athletes from throughout the state competed in the swim competition.

Five Piranhas had times that qualified them for the meet. The five swimmers were Keelyn Heaven, 14; Kaitlyn Louthan, 14; Matthew Hollinger, 11; Michael Hollinger, 13; and Winter Heaven, 16. The swimmers combined for eight medals and three ribbons.

The medal winners were Michael Hollinger and Winter Heaven. Hollinger competed in the boys age 13 to 14 events and took first in the 100-yard butterfly and second in the 100 breaststroke. Heaven competed in boys age 15 and over and took first in the 100 freestyle, first in the 100 butterfly, second in the 100 backstroke, second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 200 individual medley and third in the 200 butterfly. Heaven also was second for total points received in his age group.
