MOMS meets on Monday

The local chapter of the MOMS Club, a support organization for at-home mothers, has their May meeting May 16, at 9:30 a.m., in Soldotna. KPC announces closures, summer hours

Kenai Peninsula College's Kenai River Campus in Soldotna will be closed on May 12 for a staff development day, reopening on May 13.

The campuses summer hours will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the summer.

Donations needed for Kenai library

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are collecting books for its June book sale. Book, video, DVD and puzzle donations should be brought to the Kenai Fire Department next door to the library. Early donations are preferred so they can be sorted by genre. For more information call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.

Soldotna Safety Day coming

Participant packets are now available for Soldotna Safety Day, to be held May 21. Packets are at the Soldotna State Farm insurance office. There is no charge. TFor more information call Nancy or Shanna, 262-4440.

Youth art show accepting submissions

Submissions are now being accepted for the Peeps Art and Photo Exhibit. The exhibit is held in conjunction with the Kenai Birding Festival next week. Youth that are 18 years old and younger may submit their bird-focusd artwork and photography. Entry forms are available at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna and online at www.kenaiwatershed.org and www.kenaibirdfest.org. Entries should be ready to display and are due May 14. They can be taken to the refuge headquarters of the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center in Kenai.

Cabin tour guides needed

The Kenai Historical Society needs volunteers to train as cabin tour hosts at the Kenai Homesteader Cabin Park for several hours each week this summer. Opening is set for May 31, with orientation for new volunteers the week before. Red Cross lifeguard class available

Nikiski Pool is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Class from May 31 through June 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration fee is $135, or sign up for the T.A.P. program and the fee can be waived. Pre-registration is required. For more information call Nigel at 776-8800.

Woodturners club meets Saturday

The Kenai Peninsula Woodturners Chapter will hold its May meeting May 14 at 1 p.m. at the Workforce Development Center/Kenai Central High School on Lawton Street, in Kenai. Members and anyone interested are invited to attend the free demonstration and learn more about the Kenai Peninsula's new woodturning group. For information call Al Janonis 776-8887.

Sled dog mushers meet tonight

The Peninsula Sled Dog and Racing Association meets May 11 at 6 p.m., at the Kenai River Center. The agenda is to discuss a grant, and plan for next season. For more information call Mindee Morning at 283-3954.
