Garcia earns Team USA tryout

Danny Garcia, a utility player for the 1999 Oilers, has been invited to tryouts for Team USA. The sophomore from Pepperdine is one of 40 invitees from which the final roster will be chosen June 20.

The Oilers have signed Mike Miller from Oklahoma State University. Miller is a 6-foot-5 freshman right-handed pitcher and currently has an earned run average of 2.40 for the Cowboys.

Sixty-eight former Oilers players and coaches are on the opening day 40 man rosters of professional baseball teams for the 2000 season. This is an increase of eight over the 1999 totals for all major and minor league teams.

Jeff Jones (junior, outfielder, Long Beach State) recently connected for his fifth home run of the season, a grand slam, off of 1998-99 Oiler Nick Lyon of UCLA. Jones will be returning for his second year with the Oilers and has raised his batting average to .400 for the college season.
