Miss Alaska picked for Miss America pageant

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A nursing major at the University of Alaska Anchorage will represent Alaska in the Miss America pageant this year.

Peggy Willman, 22, was crowned Miss Alaska Saturday night. She competed as Miss North Star against 13 other women.

Willman performed a traditional Native dance as her part of the talent competition and wore a traditional Native costume she designed and made herself.

Willman said would like to become a statewide health care professional and educator.

First runner-up in the contest was Brooke Anne Mueller, competing as Miss Susitna. Miss Alyeska Jenepher Faulk was second runner-up.

Miss Williwaw Kathryn Clark and Miss Anchorage Alisa McClain completed the top five.

All fourteen of the women in the contest received a one-year tuition waiver from the University of Alaska.
