Nick Whitaker salutes as fellow Young Marines Josh Ireland, Steve Whitaker, Justin Nusunginya and Bryan Nusunginya fold a memorial flag.

On Sept. 12, a team of emergency services workers from Alaska left for New York to help in the recovery effort at the World Trade Center. The flag went along and flew over the site where the Alaska 1, Disaster Medical Assistance Team worked. The flag has since flown over the Alaska State Capitol and has toured Alaska's school communities to promote patriotism and democracy. The week of May 1, the flag was raised over Skyview and Soldotna high schools and Tustumena and Kalifornsky Beach elementary schools.
