NOME (AP) A 53-year-old Nome man died Monday as he was being medivaced to Anchorage following an early morning fire at a home.
The victim was identified as Edward Morris Milligrock.
The Nome Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 1 a.m. Fire Chief Wes Perkins says when firefighters arrived they learned that police officer Matt Owens had managed to pull 40-year-old Raymond Merrill and 43-year-old Jessie Ouilette out of the burning house.
Firefighters wearing oxygen masks went in and got Milligrock and 52-year-old Jimmy Kealiher Junior.
Kealiher also was medivaced to Anchorage. There was no official word on his condition.
Perkins said the fire was brought under control, but the building sustained major fire and smoke damage. The cause of the blaze had not been determined.
