As most families know, illnesses and medical needs don't always occur during your doctor's normal office hours and if you happen to have a job during those regular hours it makes it difficult to make those non-emergency medical appointments. Now Dan Nyitrai, PA and his wife Sherri have opened the new Alaska Family Medical Clinic to make hours more patient friendly, "All too often people need urgent care or walk-in type clinic access after hours. So, to meet that need our Alaska Family Medical Clinic is keeping unique hours Monday through Friday from 2:00pm to 9:30pm and Saturday noon to 6:00pm," explained PA Nyitrai.
According to Nyitrai a PA or Physicians Assistant is a health care professional licensed and credentialed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PA's conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions, "From fish hook removals to minor fractures or sore throats most anything you'd go to your family doctor for we can do right here. We are trained in a similar model to a physician but within a 24 rather than 48 month program and if you come with something more than we can take care of here I'll refer you on to the emergency room or an M.D." Nyitrai says that in the mid-1960's physicians and educators recognized there was a shortage of uneven distribution of primary care physicians. To expand the delivery of quality medical care Duke University Medical Center created the first class of PA's. Today Physicians Assistants are educated in intensive accredited medical programs lasting approximately 26 months. "Because of the close working relationship PA's have with physicians, PA's are educated in a medical model designed to complement physician training," explained Nyitrai.
"In the year that we have been open we have gotten progressively busier and everyone that comes in absolutely loves our hours as well as the service and attention they are given. Our purpose in opening the clinic Dan Brown Executive Producer

Walk-ins are always welcome but we do also schedule appointments which are given preference," said Nyitrai's partner and wife Sherri. "We have a different outlook here and have recreated the Norman Rockwell picture of family health care," added Dan.
