Burning suspension lifted; wind advisory added

Posted: Thursday, May 13, 2010

The Alaska Division of Forestry has lifted the open burning suspension for permitted open burns but added a wind advisory. Burning permits are not valid during windy conditions. Some areas have received very little precipitation and residents must evaluate their own site conditions. Forestry will assess the fire danger rating daily and adjust the burn suspension accordingly.

Permittees must call each day to the phone number listed on their permit to record their burn. For more information visit http://forestry.alaska.gov/burn or call 260-4269 or your local fire department.

The FireWise Tip is to look at structures for openings that would allow entry of blowing embers. Repair and enclose gaps and crevices.
