ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. has appointed a former Coast Guard commander as head of its tanker escort and oil-spill response program.
Joe Kuchin will be manager of the Ship Escort/Response Vessel System starting in June. He will replace acting SERVS manager Dennis Maguire, who will return to his job as SERVS regulatory manager.
Kuchin served 29 years in the Coast Guard, much of the time spent in marine safety and response to oil and hazardous material emergencies, Alyeska said.
SERVS, based in Valdez, includes a number of tugs, barges and other equipment to guide tankers in and out of Alyeska's marine terminal and respond in event of a spill.
