Ninilchik resident Lars Daniel Hansen Jr. died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his Aunty Penny and Uncle Willie's "home away from home," in Conway, Wash. after a brave battle with cancer. He was 20.
Funeral services will be held 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Ninilchik School. Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ninilchik. Officiating will be John Lindeman. Following the services, there will be a gathering at the Inlet View in Ninilchik.
Mr. Hansen Jr. was born May 17, 1979, in Kodiak. He was a commercial fisherman since graduating from the Ninilchik School in 1997. He loved fishing, trapping, and riding his snowmachine and motorbike. He had many interests, most of them having something to do with the outdoors.
"He will be remembered for his strength, his bravery, his love for his Native heritage and the sparkle in his big brown eyes. He will be in all of our hearts forever," the family said.
Mr. Hansen Jr. is preceded in death by his grandparents, Danny and Barbara Hansen; grandfather, Donald Smith; and cousin, James L. Hansen.
He is survived by his parents, Kristie and Danny Hansen of Ninilchik; sisters Kourtney Hansen of Ninilchik, Kimberly Collett and Kimberly Cooper both of Anchorage; aunts and uncles, Penny and Willie Stroup of Conway, Wa., Karen and Mike Rotschy of Amboy, Wash.; aunt Marlene Day of Cooper Landing; uncles, George Hansen and Howard Hansen, both of Kodiak; grandparents Howie and Irene Leite of Stanwood, Wash.; nephews Derrick and Hunter and many loving cousins.
He also leaves many special friends who have loved and supported him through this past year, including Junior.
