DUTCH HARBOR (AP) -- The state's food safety office should re-open in Dutch Harbor by July 1.

The Department of Environmental Conservation said the office not only will perform a variety of food safety services such as inspections but also will provide information to business owners about proper food handling.

DEC has over 30 restaurants with permits in the Dutch Harbor area as well as 80 other facilities that require inspections. There are eight large land-based seafood processors and over 100 processing vessels operating within the area.
