Anchorage resident Patricia Mary Gerondale died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Alaska Regional Hospital. She was 72.
At her request, a private service will be held for the immediate family. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at Bob Gerondale's home at 10166 Voyager Circle in Anchorage. For further information, call (907) 345-0053.
Mrs. Gerondale was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Minnesota. Her family moved to Alaska in 1936, arriving on the Alaska Steamship. They lived in Kenai for a time before moving to Anchorage, where Mrs. Gerondale attended school and graduated from Anchorage High School in 1949.
She married Ken Gerondale, a Bush pilot at the time. "It was love at first flight," her family said.
She worked on the White Alice Defense Project prior to retiring from Teamsters Local 959. After retirement, she spent 20 years traveling in California and Oregon before moving back to Anchorage to be close to her family. She took up gardening and cross-stitching, winning many awards, including grand champion at the 2004 Fur Rondy.
"She was always the first to do something nice for someone else, whether it was baking a cake, a smile or a hug," her family said. "Her greatest jobs were her husband, who she was married to for 55 years, her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Chica, too."
Mrs. Gerondale was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Alice Aylward; and brothers, Martin and Michael Aylward.
She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Anchorage; son, Kenneth Jr. of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Diana of Anchorage and Richard and Becky of Wasilla; grandchildren, Chad, Chris, Heath, Kari, Rich, Hilary and Katy; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother, Dan Aylward of Anchorage; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Francine Aylward of Seattle; and sister, Alice White of Anchorage.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 500 W. International Airport Road, Suite A, Anchorage, AK 99518.
Arrangements were made by Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory.
