Chugach National Forest staff are planning events to coincide with National Trails Day which is June 5.
On June 2, a kids fun day is scheduled at Primrose Campground, Mile 18 of the Seward Highway, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities will include an "Un-nature" hike and nature crafts. Participants should bring a sandwich and water; supplies, guidance, snacks and juices will be provided.
Also on June 2, Nancy Gehm from the Seward Ranger District will conduct a backpacking seminar at 7 p.m. at REI in Anchorage.
On June 5, volunteers will meet at the Resurrection Pass south trail head at Mile 53 of the Sterling Highway at 10 a.m. to do maintenance on drainage structures on the first three miles of the trail.
Volunteers should bring work gloves, eye protection, work boots and a lunch. Supervision, hardhats, sports drinks and snacks will be provided, as will campsites at the Russian River campground for out-of-town participants.
