Veterans' appreciation dinner set

Cook Inlet Academy's National Honor Society and Skyview High School's social studies department will host their fifth annual veterans' appreciation dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Soldotna Sports Center. Veterans and their families are invited to attend this free dinner.

Boys and Girls Club registration deadline today

The deadline to register for the Kenai Boys and Girls Club summer clubhouse is today. Summer clubhouse hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Clubhouse sessions will be June 7 through 30, July 1 through 30 and Aug. 2 through 23. Space is limited. Children ages 6 (who have completed first grade) through 12 are eligible to attend. The cost is $125 per child, per session with a Boys and Girls Club membership of $20 a year. Scholarships are available. For more information, call 283-2682.

PenDOG offers videos

Peninsula Dog Obedience Group is offering a free video hour every Friday night at 6 in addition to its classes.

PenDOG, at Mile 1 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna, holds classes in agility, learning theory, beginning, intermediate, advanced and competition obedience and Rally, a new obedience sport.

Puppy kindergarten meets weekly and is always open to new students.

4-H to sell trees

The 4-H and Global Re-Leaf bare root tree stock sale will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Godfather's Pizza parking lot in Soldotna. Order forms will be available on site or at the Cooperative Extension office on Kalifornsky Beach Road. For more information, call 262-5824.

Community cleanup slated

The Kenai Peninsula Lions clubs and ConocoPhillips will sponsor a cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the green strip park in Kenai and at Soldotna Creek Park.

Cash prizes will be available for most litter bags collected in each community. Boys and girls bicycle certificates also will be drawn for children under 10 who collect and turn in bags to receive a ticket. A barbecue and refreshments will be held at the green strip park on Main Street Loop in Kenai following trash collection.

Car show, recreational swap meet scheduled

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions will hold its third annual car show and a recreational swap meet fund-raiser at 10 a.m. with setup to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Kenai McDonald's parking lot. The swap meet is for dirt bikes, truck and car parts, race cars, racing gear, helmets, snowmachines, motorcycles, four wheelers and bicycles. No household or craft items. The space fee is $15.

Stock, drag racing and classic cars, as well as motorcross bikes, will be on display. The public is invited to attend. The KPRL also will collect used eye glasses and registering people for organ and tissue donors. For more information, call Wendy Hudson at 260-3305.

Walk for MS seeking walkers, volunteers

The Soldotna walk for multiple sclerosis will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the McDonald's-Safeway parking lot on the Sterling Highway. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The course will cover approximately 5 miles. Walkers and volunteers still are needed. Developmental screenings offered

Frontier Community Services will offer free developmental screenings for children ages birth to 3 years from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its office in the Red Diamond Center. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Renie at 262-3144

Teen club to hold car wash fund-raiser

The Moose Family Center Teen Club will hold a car wash fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the center on the Kenai Spur Highway.

Elementary closing ceremonies slated

The Nikiski Elementary School closing ceremony will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the school. Memorabilia, a barbecue, refreshments, entertainment and special speakers are some of the planned activities. The public is encouraged to attend.
