Homer sweeps Skyview

The visiting Mariners took a 3-0 lead into halftime and never let up in earning a 5-0 win over the Skyview boys on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference soccer action.

Panthers coach David Carpenter said Homer's Bjorn Klaar had a real nice goal early and Mark Wallsworth also found the back of the net twice. Skyview is now 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the NLC and will travel to rival Soldotna for a nonconference affair today.

The Homer girls also earned a shutout over the Panthers, leaving town with a 2-0 win. Skyview coach Rustin Hitchcock said the Mariners first struck about midway through the opening half and scored again 10 minutes into the second half.

He credited seniors Chelsea Tyler, Elaina Mercier, Bailey Walgenbach, Hannah West, Charleene Ivanoff and Jessica Bilderback with strong performances on Senior Night.

"They had a great last home game," Hitchcock said. "That was the best game we've had all season. Two minor mistakes was the difference."

The Panthers (1-9 overall, 0-4 NLC) will also play at Soldotna today.
