SoHi softball topples SkyHi

The Soldotna softball team defeated Skyview 22-0 at the Soldotna Little League fields in a game called after three innings.

Savannah Hegge pitched all three innings for the Stars. She faced 11 batters, striking out nine, walking one and hitting one.

On offense for the Stars, Mariah Darrow was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Savannah Hegge was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple, Amandra Cobb was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Natalie Kress was 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple and four RBIs, Brittnie Thayer was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double, and Maddie Tice was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a nice bunt.

Soldotna struck for 16 hits in the game.

"They kept their spirits up," Soldotna coach Dave Cleveland said of the Panthers. "This is their first year at the varsity level. In our first year, we took some thumpings.

"I hope they keep building and keep going. I like having as many local teams as possible."

The Stars travel to Homer for games this weekend. Today, they play Juneau at 6:15 p.m. and Ketchikan at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, they play Ketchikan at 1 p.m. and Juneau at 3 p.m.

Skyview will play Kodiak at the Soldotna Little League fields at 4 and 6 p.m. today.
