Vacation bible school

Vacation bible school at Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 North Forest Drive in Kenai on June 1 through June 5 at 9 a.m. to noon. Join us for Bible stories, music, crafts, games and snacks at Planet Zoom: where bold believers ZIP, ZAP and ZOOM for Jesus. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. There is no charge. Mission training

En La Gloria Ministries is presenting training on mission / evangelism work at Nikiski New Hope Fellowship at mile post 23 in Nikiski just before the turn off to the pool. This is training for anyone interested in doing mission work. We are interdenominational. We take teams of people from different backgrounds and talents. There will be hands on information with an opportunity to go on a mission trip here in Alaska or to Mexico. There is a fifty dollar refundable fee if you do volunteer work here or get accepted to go on a mission trip with us.

The training will begin May 21 at 6:30 p.m. and continue on May 22 from 9 to 2 p.m. Passport applications are available at the conference. Bring a sack lunch or pool together to order lunch on the second day. RSVP or questions, call Maria 398-9387.

Basement sale on

Basement sale donations are being sought by the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Items for the May 21 - 22 sale may be brought to the side door of the building on Mondays between noon and 3. The Methodist Church is located next to the Boys and Girls club on the Frontage Road of the Kenai Spur Highway.

Youth events planned

The following events will be held at Peninsula Grace, at Mile 19.5, Kalifonsky Beach Road unless otherwise noted.

* Sunday Nite Open Mic for 7th- to 12th-grade students is planned in the Youth Center on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.. Showcase your talent or come for some free entertainment. For more information call 262-6442 or e-mail actionyouth@peninsulagrace.org .

* Beach Party for grades 7 through 12 at the Kenai Beach off South Spruce Street, on May 21 at 6 p,m.. Get together with students from around the Peninsula at the beach and enjoy food, volleyball, frisbee, football, a bonfire and more. Call 394-6449 for more information.

Wednesday study, fellowship, worship

Saint Luke Lutheran Church offers several faith strengthening opportunities during the week. The parish's Wednesday 10:30 a.m. fellowship/study is currently focusing on Leviticus. We attempt to cover one chapter a session and meet at 48095 Andrews Avenue for approximately one hour.

Our Wednesday evening activities take place at the Parish Hall, 43055 Kenai Spur Highway, and consist of a potluck fellowship, Vespers Service and detailed analysis of basic Christian doctrine, currently focusing on the Holy Spirit's work in directing the Christian life. ALPHA course slated

The Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 S Binkley Street will host an ALPHA course. The course is about talking around a table in a non-threatening atmosphere where people can ask faith questions without fear of being challenged. Questions are covered in 12 weekly sessions and a Saturday half-day retreat.

Bible study live or online

A King James Bible study group meets at 7 p.m. on Thursdays on East Echo Lake Road in Soldotna and also offers "live" teachings on Skype video. For more information, call 262-3507 or e-mail kingjamesbiblystudy@gmail.com.

Saturday Bible study on tap

The Nikiski Nazarene Church will hold a Bible study on Esther at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at the church at Mile 18 of the Kenai Spur Highway. It is open to all women. For more information, call 776-8022.

Clothes Quarters open

The Clothes Quarters located at Our Lady of the Angels at 225 South Spruce Street in Kenai is open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. the first Saturday of each month. For more information, call 283-9371 or 283-4555.

Recovery program offered

The Lighthouse Community Church will hold Recovery Now, a scripturally based recovery program, at 7 p.m. Fridays.

The program is for anyone who is dealing with or has dealt with addiction of any kind. For more information, call 252-6445.

Thrift store open

The Lighthouse Community Church thrift store, The Sandbox, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The store is in the office building next to the church in Nikiski.

Clothes ministry ongoing

The Clothes 4 U Ministry offers free clothing to benefit the community. The ministry is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at First Baptist Church Soldotna Mission House at 119 Little Ave. in Soldotna.
