The Peninsula Oilers have signed third baseman/pitcher Garrett Wittels. He is currently a sophomore at Florida International University and is majoring in sports management. Wittels will contribute at third base and on the mound for the Oilers this summer.
He is a 6-foot-1, 198-pound right-hander. Wittels is currently batting .412 with two home runs and 46 RBIs. In three appearances, he has a 3.38 ERA and three strikeouts.
In high school, Wittels was named to the Miami Herald Second Team All-Miami Dade in 2008 and to the third team the previous two years. He was selected MVP his sophomore and senior seasons. Wittels posted a .420 average with six home runs and 29 RBIs during his senior year.
