ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A local travel agency and an air charter business have teamed up to offer flights to the Russian Far East.
ITC Travel & Tours in Anchorage has organized a scheduled charter for business travel that will offer service direct from Anchorage to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, with a return to Alaska at the end of the work week.
ITC will make the arrangements for business travelers and will offer door-to-door service with what it calls the ITC Sakhalin Express.
''We understand the game plan for companies interested in doing business in the RFE,'' said company president Yoshi Ogawa.
Flights will begin on May 21 to Yuzhno using the jet aircraft of North Western Arctic Air. Flights will depart on Monday morning and return to Anchorage Friday evening, according to Ogawa.
Prices for the flights will start at $8,950 round trip. Two passengers must have reservations for the flights to depart. Customs will be available for clearing on both legs of the trip.
Travel to and from the Russian Far East has suffered due to the absence of Reeve Aleutian Airways Inc., which offered flights weekly hauling cargo and passengers to Petropavlosk Kamchatka and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
