The annual Rotary Rose Sale has become a spring tradition on the Peninsula. "It's a great event!" said Doug Schoessler, Soldotna Rotarian and Rose Sale chairman, "Actually we ask for a twenty dollar donation for our scholarship fund, and we give folks a dozen roses as a thank you."
Members of the Soldotna Rotary Club gathered last week to prepare the roses for sale at Hughes Drilling Company in Soldotna. This year some 750 dozen roses will bring smiles, kisses and hugs to the recipients, as well as dollars to help local youths fund their college education.
Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and business offices take on the bloom of spring thanks to those who participate in the annual event. Alaska Airlines flies the roses from California at reduced rates, to be sure they arrive as fresh as possible.
