NAKNEK (AP) -- Bristol Bay Borough voters for the second time have rejected an employment privilege tax.
The Assembly met Monday night and the results of the May 7 special election were certified. The employment tax failed by 10 votes, 151 to 161. The tax was defeated by 12 votes in 1998.
The tax would have collected $100 a year on each person employed in the borough, including short-term summer hires. The proceeds would have been committed to fund local school operations.
The tax was supported by the majority of the King Salmon and South Naknek voters, but opposed by most Naknek voters.
