Track and field meet set

North Peninsula Recreation Service Area is registering boys and girls ages 9 to 14 for the annual Hershey Track and Field Meet. The meet will be held Friday at the Nikiski Middle Senior High School track.

Gardening classes continue

Janice Chumley of the Cooperative Extension Service will hold the last session in a series of gardening classes at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, 33955 Community College Drive in Soldotna. A class on "pests — weeds and bugs" from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Chumley will lecture and provide recipes and practical Alaska advice. Registration is not required.

Refuge plans spring cleanup and green up day

Kenai National Wildlife manager Robin West announced the Refuge will conduct a spring cleaning Friday. All permanent and summer seasonal employees will work with local volunteers to spruce up the refuge in preparation for summer.

Refuge staff will meet at the Ski Hill Road visitor center at 8 a.m. The cleaning groups will gather at Upper Skilak campground at 4 p.m. for a picnic provided by Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Employees Association, the Alaska Natural History Association and Unocal.
