Posted: Friday, May 17, 2002

Description:This is a directed program with a preset curriculum, monitored advancement within the program, skill development to fit the junior's needs, and development of advanced skills for state-level competition. The students also will be tested at the end of the session in etiquette and rules. They must pass this test to compete in state and local tournaments. Tom Walsh, Birch Ridge's head pro, will direct and supervise the junior program.

There will be two sessions conducted as clinics:

1. Beginners -- ages 8-11 with less than 2 years experience. The main focus will be skill training for swing, short game, putting and etiquette. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. A specific level on each skill will be required to advance to the next group.

Dates: June 10-15.

2. Skilled -- juniors 12 and above who have completed the Beginners Clinic. The primary focus will be on advanced skill development along with additional course play. Upon completion of the session, the juniors will be given the opportunity to compete in state competition. Qualifications will be based on merit level as well as a minimum skill score.

Upon satisfactory completion, the partcipants will be allowed to play on the golf course without parental supervision.

Dates: June 17-21.

Other: Those juniors who have completed both the beginners and the skilled clinics and have a desire for state competition with the AJGA tournaments should contact Tom Walsh. He will make arrangements to assist juniors in areas of their game in which they need help. There will be no charge for these individual sessions.
