Mabeus moves to Brewers organization

Chris Mabeus, a graduate of Soldotna High School, was claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday and optioned to the Nashville (Tenn.) Sounds of the Pacific Coast League, the Brewers’ Triple A affiliate.

Mabeus was selected by Oakland in the 2001 draft and has spent the past two seasons with the Sacramento (Calif.) Rivercats, the Athletics’ Triple A team. He is listed on the Brewers’ 40-man roster.

Mabeus, 27, played American Legion baseball with the Post 20 Twins and was a member of the Peninsula Oilers. This season with the Rivercats, Mabeus, a right-handed relief pitcher, has a record of 0-1 with a 4.58 earned run average. He has appeared in 12 games, recording 20 strikeouts and walking 10 batters in 19 2/3 innings.
