The Soldotna baseball team defeated host Homer 26-7 in five innings in Northern Lights Conference action Monday. The Stars improve to 2-3 in the league and 3-8 overall.
Tyler Fritz picked up the win for SoHi. Fritz pitched four innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
"We played real solid defense with the exception of the final inning," SoHi coach Roger Phillips said. "The kids really rally behind Fritz each time he's on the mound."
Mitchel Daugherty pitched the last inning, giving up four earned runs on one hit. He struck out two.
The Stars had 12 hits in the game, with each starter collecting a base knock. Josiah Covey led the way with a 2-for-3 performance that included a home run and three RBIs.
Also for the Stars, Max Hegge was 1-for-1 with three RBIs, Shane Miller was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, Mason Kanakis was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Jarret Urban was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Stars play Wednesday at Kenai at 5:30 p.m.
