Mrs. Tanape was born March 6, 1936, at Nanwalek. She lived in the area all her life. She worked at the English Bay Store and the English Bay School as a cook.

She was a member of St. Sergius and St. Herman Orthodox Church. She enjoyed fishing in all seasons and weather, bingo and pull tabs.

The family wrote, "First of all, Annie Tanape was a devoted wife full of romance and love for her husband, Herman Tanape. She expressed her love for her seven children, their partners, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, four sisters, friends and local village children through story telling, jokes, laughing and smiles. Annie was a wonderful elder teacher for subsistence food gathering and preservation techniques for our Suqpiuq Native people and children.

"When she was playing bingo and pull tabs she stated, 'It keeps my right hand in shape for fishing,' after her stroke. All will surely miss Annie for we loved her greatly. May her memory be eternal."

Mrs. Tanape is preceded in death by her loving father and mother, Timothy and Anesia Ukatish; sister, Nadia Tanape; brother, Ben Ukatish; and brother-in-law Floyd Alexander. Also, six days after her death, her brother, Seraphim Ukatish, died.
