Seniors to hold garage sale

The Nikiski Senior Citizens will hold a garage sale today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the center. Donations will be taken through noon Friday.

Blood drive held in Homer

The Blood Bank of Alaska Kenai Peninsula Center will hold a Homer Community Blood Drive today and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Homer Elks Lodge on Jenny Lane.

Donors are encouraged to drink plenty of caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating.

SPCA van to spend weekend in Sterling

The Alaska SPCA Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic will visit Sterling today, Saturday and Sunday. The prices are: female dogs $50, regardless of size; male dogs and female cats, $40; and male cats, $25.

Cities prepare for cleanup day

Saturday is the Unocal Alaska Community Cleanup Day hosted by the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three garbage collector groups in each city. There also will be a barbecue held at each location for participants.

Groups can register at either the Kenai or Soldotna chamber offices.

4-H tree sale slated

The 4-H tree sale will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Godfather's Pizza parking lot in Soldotna. The sale is in conjunction with the Global Releaf sale.

Rummage sale to raise funds for football team

There will be an outdoor rummage sale Saturday at Skyview High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will go toward the Skyview Football Club.

First race activities held through weekend

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions Drag Racing Division will hold the first race activities of the season this weekend. The division will hold a Test and Tune and Fan Appreciation Day Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The events are free to the public. The first points race will be held Sunday at 9 a.m., with timed trials held at 11:30 a.m. and elimination at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $7, with children under 12 free.

Workshop offered for those with new ideas

A workshop titled Turning Ideas into Income will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kachemak Community Center. The session will target those with new product ideas and feature help from representatives of state organizations, local business assistance programs and experienced local entrepreneurs in such areas as developing prototypes, manufacturing processes, patents and more. Workshop sponsors are Entrepreneurs Corner, Kenai Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development District, Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center and the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District. Campgrounds closed for tree removal

Alaska State Parks recently announced that the following campgrounds will be closed for hazard tree removal: Halibut Campground in the Anchor River State Recreation Area will be closed until Tuesday. The Stariski State Recreation Site, near Anchor Point, and the Ninilchik River Campground in Ninilchik will be closed until Thursday.

Registrations are now being accepted for the first KCHS choir reunion being held June 2 for anyone who has sung under the direction of Renee Henderson.
