Gospel legend to perform concerts

Sherman Andrus will be in concert at various churches this week.

Sunday, he will perform at North Kenai Baptist Church at 11 a.m. and Kenai New Life Assembly of God Sunday at 6 p.m. He also will perform at the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Soldotna Wednesday at 7 p.m. Andrus was the founding member of several groups and is said to be one of the contemporary Christian music living legends. Chorus to tour state

The Concordia Seminary Chorus, under the direction of the Rev. Henry V. Gerike, have planned a historic tour of Alaska Monday through Thursday. All members of the chorus are Concordia Seminary students from St. Louis who are preparing to serve as pastors in the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod.

The chorus will perform at the Star of the North Lutheran Church Tuesday. For more information, call 283-4153.

Area resident raises funds for cause

Soldotna resident Annette Pankoski recently committed to support Focus on the Family by participating in its fund-raiser, the National Bike Ride for the Family. She will spend three days pedaling 200 miles through Alaska to raise support for the ministry.

More than 1,500 people across the nation will join her in this commitment and in all will raise $3,000. Every dollar donated is tax deductible and will be used for families in need.

To sponsor Pankoski, donate online at www.bikerideforthefamily.org; her rider identification number is 1838. Mail in donation can be sent to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, CO 80995. The ID number is requested. Deadline to sponsor a rider is May 31.

Choir members wanted for musical

Choir members are being sought for "Experiencing God," a musical. It is an outdoor worship event scheduled for June 17. Rehearsals are being held at four locations. The actual performance will be under the direction of Dr. Gary Bonner, an internationally recognized conductor. The rehearsal locations are as follows:

Kenai Fellowship on Sundays at 3 p.m., Mile 8.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway, 283-7682;

Peninsula Grace Brethren on Sundays at 4 p.m., 44175 Kalifornsky Beach Road, 262-6442;

North Kenai Baptist on Saturdays at 1 p.m., Mile 25 of the Spur Highway, 776-8234; and

Soldotna Church of God on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., 105 Redoubt, 262-4729.
