Soldotna High School held its prom dance April 24. When the prom dance ends, most students are not ready to end their celebration of this long-awaited event. This period of time is of concern to parents, teachers and local law enforcement officials.
Therefore, an after-prom party organized by the parents of juniors is intended to give the kids a safe place to go after prom for food, games and music instead of individual parties where parental guidance may be lacking. The commitment of the parents to this party was inspiring. Fund raising and prize gathering is especially tedious. Theresa Parsons and Pam Moeglein had this very difficult and time consuming job. The community responded with abundance, which is the only reason the event was such a success with 170 kids attending the event that went from midnight until nearly 3 a.m. The kids were great ,and it was a pleasure serving them.
Thus, a very huge thanks to the following parents, friends and businesses for investing in our children:
Thank you to the So-Hi After Prom party committee members and party chaperones: Bob and Sue Jones, Rhonda Needs, Theresa Parsons, Pam Moeglein, Dan Pankoski, Roy and Janet Shapely, Jeff and Stacy Johnson, Jeff and Stacy Warton, Sharon Roesch, Mick Wykis, Eric and Ginger Mayer, Jenny Olendorff, Jeff and Pam Breakfield, Beth Courtney, Max and Connie Best, Karl and Lisa Franzmann, Stuart and Candy Goldstein, Pam Howard, Nels and Kathy Gardner, Helen Aye, Liz Chase, Kay Gardner and Barb Lichner. These parents have jobs, businesses and family responsibilities that consume them and yet found the time to invest in this valuable event. I know a lot of our homes are much messier because of time redirected to this; so, thanks to all your families.
Thank you to the SoHi parents of juniors who donated $25 as requested and-or baked goods and bottled water. We appreciate the ice donation from Terry and Nancy Eastham. Will and Jane Madison, retired Anchorage school counselors and friends, thank you for baking 12 dozen cookies and donating cash!
Thank you to the following Soldotna and Kenai businesses: The Boys and Girls Club provided us with the use of the Kenai Recreation Center at a very reasonable rate. We were able to offer more cash prizes to the kids instead of spending the money on facility rental or big toy rental. Cash and prize donations came from the following businesses: Acapulco Restaurant, ACS, Alaska Salon, Alaska USA, Anchorage Daily News, Arctic Cat, Audio Concepts, Auto Wash Express, Alyeska Tire, Beemun's, Blockbuster Video, Buckets, Burger Bus, Carquest, Charlotte's Restaurant, Clark's Espresso, C & C Stables, Coca Cola, Coffee Concepts, Columbia Paint, Cozy Cushions, Country Insurance, Dairy Queen, Dale Dolifka, Edward Jones, Era Aviation, First National Bank of Alaska, Fish Magnet, Fitness Place, Ford, Freedom Realty, Ginger's, GMC/Hutchings, GNC Health Store, Godfather's Pizza, Halcyon, HEA, Healthy Changes, Hey Good Lookin', Independent Concrete Enterprises, Inlet Gifts, Instant Replay, James Julien DDS, Kaladi Brothers, Lambe, Tuter & Wagner, Midas, NAPA, Orca Theatre, Petro Express, Peninsula Plumbing, Peninsula Internal Medicine, Pepsi, Pizza Boys, Quality Ice, Sadler's, Safeway, Save-U-More, Shear Allusions, Signatures Salons, Solar Flair, Soldotna Animal Hospital, Soldotna Dental Clinic, Soldotna Professional Pharmacy, State Farm, Stylistix Salon, Subway, Tammy's Flowers, Tesoro, The Hair Force, Three Bears, Tina's Too, TLC Auto Detail, Ultimate Tan, Unocal, Wells Fargo and Zeni's Hair Design.
Please pay close attention to these businesses. They show commitment to and sacrifice for our teens and therefore our community by their willingness to give to these causes. Please buy from them first to show your appreciation. Let them know you are choosing them because of their interest in and commitment to our kids. I know I have already begun to purchase from businesses on this list that I did not visit before and will continue to do so. Thank you all again.
