River Fest still needs volunteers

Special Olympics fundraiser coming

Alaska's Torch Run, a 5-kilometer run and walk organized by law enforcement officers to benefit the Special Olympics, is scheduled for May 21 at 10 a.m. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. at the McDonald's in Kenai. Participants are asked to collect pledges, those collecting at least $25 will receive a T-shirt. For pledge information visit www.specialolympcsalaska.org.

Spring cleaning set for Spruce Grove Cemetery

A clean up at the Spruce Grove Cemetery in Kasilof is scheduled for May 21 from 10 a.m. to Noon. Participants are asked to bring leaf rakes and gloves, lunch will be provided. For more information call Jan or Brock at 283-9243.

Teen Night to feature obstacle course

The Nikiski Community Recreation Center's Teen Night on May 20 will feature a 34-inch inflatable obstacle course from 6 to 8 p.m. for teens 13-18 years old. For more information call 776-8800.

MS walk set for Saturday

A 4-mile fundraising walk for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's work in Alaska is scheduled for Saturday in Soldotna. Registration starts at 10 a.m. at the Soldotna High School parking lot, and the walk starts at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to collect pledges. Borough reapportionment committee meets

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Reapportionment Committee meets May 19. at 4 p.m. in the Borough Administration Building, Frances Brymer Conference Room, 144 N. Binkley St., Soldotna. The committee will develop one or more reapportionment plans for recommendation to the Borough Assembly.

Recycle those old electronic devices

The spring Electronics Recycle Event is May 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Central Peninsula Landfill, Mile 98.5 Sterling highway. Household fees are $15 per vehicle, limit two moniters, additional moniters at $15each; TVs 18 inches or less, $15; greater than 18-inch, $25 each. Business fees are 35 cents/pound; nonprofits are 25 cents /pound with 501(c)3 status, need to schedule an appointment. All computers and electronics are accepted except audio and video tapes, smoke detectors and vacuums. To make an appointment or ask questions call Jan at 252-5098.
